Looking for somewhere fun to go this weekend?
So last weekend I tried a new wine tasting room in Camarillo and I was really impressed with the quality of the wines, the owner Brittany and the love that was put into their wines. Millesime Cellars is located at 425 Constitution Ave Suite H in Camarillo. It is open Thursday-Sunday 12-6. From the outside it definitely screams "industrial park," but the inside is like stepping into a the perfect wine tasting heaven. The tasting room is decorated with the owners artwork, as she started the business to find a way to blend her love of art with her love of wine. She is a photographer and she has traveled extensively taking pictures which now adorn her tasting room and her wine labels.
I did a wine and truffle pairing and it was truly an amazing culinary experience. Who would have ever thought of pairing a cabernet with a curry coated dark chocolate truffle? However, the taste palette and the sensations in my mouth were truly out of this world. I tasted 5 of her red wines and there was not a single wine I did not like, even the dessert wine which is normally so not my thing. The syrah and the Bleu Saphir (cab, cab franc and merlot blend) were my favorites but seriously I would have been happy with a glass of any of her wines.
Millesime Cellars is a boutique winery which means it limits production and/or is artisanal. They are very selective of where they acquire their grapes and they tend to use small farmers that raise their grapes organically. They also allow their wines to age longer than most wineries and so they are just now pouring their 2007 wines.
The owner is related to the Sunstone wine family and she actually started her career as their wine maker. If you are unfamiliar with Sunstone wines they are also home to some amazing wines, the merlot being my favorite. They are out of Santa Ynez and they have wines with a great flavor palette as well. Definitely worth the trip and the taste.
The wines are a little on the pricey end, but the quality is very evident and the flavors very robust and well worth it. This is definitely worth the time and energy to check this place out. They do have a wine club, if you are interested in having a winery commitment and I can guarantee that you would not be disappointed. Cheers to a hot and wonderful weekend!
